I had forgotten how much fun it was!

No, not that! I know how much fun that is!

The phone rings on a Sunday morning. The caller ID says its' the wifes boss. We wonder why she would be calling on a Sunday? Well apparently my wife had told the boss lady that I used to play ball. She was calling to fill a spot on a co-ed softball team. I had not played ball since 2003 when I severely broke both bones in my wrist. I have had two surgeries on my left shoulder which is my throwing shoulder. These from being a pitcher from the time I was eight, up till I was 36. I have had surgery on my left knee to repair ligaments, from what, you guessed it! Playing baseball. I have always loved baseball, but it has not been good to me. Thank goodness for insurance!

My wife told me to go. She knew how much I missed playing ball, and how much I loved to play. Even though this was co-ed softball, it was fun. It had been about 8 years since I played softball, and 5 years since playing on any kind of team. I was a little worried about how the knee and shoulder and wrist would hold up. I can tell you that I am a little sore in the legs today, but that was a lot of fun.

I drug my 42 year old broken down body out to play, and found that I still had it. I can't throw like I used to, I can't run like I used to, but I can still catch! I can still hit! The highlight was the last inning with two outs I came up and put one way over the left field fence!!!! Yes, your thinking a game winner in the last inning! Not quite!

It was an out! This was a co-ed league with a zero homer rule so that if you hit one over the fence, it's an out! nice to know I could still do it!

I sure hope I get the chance to play some more.

NICE! Props to you!

I had two shoulder surgeries on my throwing shoulder over my career and I pulled a hammy on the right side in one pick up game and I pulled the left in another pickup game a few years later and they both still twing now and then but I still love to play. I will be the big 40 this year and not looking forward to it. But I figure I can still hit and play catcher or something...The new bats that you can buy are unbelievable they make the ball soar. Good luck and keep playing and living the dream!
